following future ‘tenses’:

Task 2 – State as many usages
as possible of the future tenses below and give one example sentence of your
own for each usage (not a sentence from the unit!):
a) Future simple
Future facts:

Predictions:
I won’t drink.
Assumptions:
I think they will leave in the morning.

b) Future continuous
Action in progress in a moment in the future:

c) Future perfect
To say something will be done, completed or achieved in the
future:
I will finish the TEFL course by the end of this week.
d) Future perfect continuous
How long something would have continued by a certain time:

have been sitting in from of this PC for 3 hours.
e) ‘Going to’ future
Intentions:
I am going to finish Unit 8.
Predictions based on evidence:
I believe I will be a good teacher.

Task
4 – Give at least 2 activate stage teaching ideas for the tenses below and give
examples of sentences that you would expect your students to produce:
a) Future simple
1. Start an exercise in class by talking about current
events. Then get the students to write own all the future consequences of
today’s actions. Finally present the predictions to the class.
2. Continue the exercise by asking student what predictions
will they change and what will they due instead.
b) Future continuous
1. Have the students illustrate their present activities and
write down all they have done during the day. Now have them devise an orderly plan
for their future activities hour by hour in a schedule.
2. Create an exercise in which a student is approached by a
pushy sales man or a travelling evangelist and have one student play the
salesman and another the potential customer. The student playing the sales man
has to find a way to schedule a future appointment. And the student playing the
customer has to response based on the hour by hour schedule done previously.
c) Future perfect
1. Based on current events happening now, create a “what
will you have done” exercise in which the students play the parts of people
involved in current events and say how would they’ve done them differently.
2. Create a biography of their favorite fictional character.
d) Future perfect continuous
1. Based on what the student have done during the day,
create an exercise in which the student write down how will they have done
thing differently using the future perfect continuous.
2. Create a budget of the average daily expenses of the
students and then project the budget to the end of the year.
e) ‘Going to’ future
1. Have the student’s plan their dream vacation to their
favorite place and have the write down the things they are going to do.
2.Based on the current stats of their favorite sports have
the students predict which team could win and how.
Task 5 – Give examples of
each of the pairs of tenses listed below and explain the difference in usage
and structure between them as you would do to a low-level student:
a) Present continuous
(with a future meaning) and the ‘going to’ future
i) Explanation of differences in structure:
Present continuous: Subject + to be + verb + ing.
‘Going to’ future: Subject + am/are + going to + verb
ii) Differences in usage:
Present continuous (with a future meaning) is used when you
have a CERTAIN action that is “talked about in the present but will happen in
the future.
The ‘going to’ future I used when you have a future activity
you will develop.
iii) Example sentences:
Present continuous (with a future meaning):
Ex/: I am eating my dinner tonight.
The ‘going to’ future:
Ex/:
I am going eat dinner tonight.
