WORKSHEET
– UNIT 15
Task 1 – Imagine you are a
student in the class on the CD-ROM. How
would you have felt during?
Lesson one?
Bored, not focused on the lesson, not clear about the
purpose of the lesson. Tired of the teacher repeating the same thing on the
board. Not confident at all about asking/answering questions after seeing the
teacher shot down other students
Lesson two?
Gets your attention because the purpose of the lesson is
clear. Easier to understand.
Task 2 – Which lesson was the
more effective? Why?
Lesson two was more effective than lesson one. The material
was clear, the attitude of the teacher was encouraging and the purpose of the
lesson was clear.
Task 3 – What main
differences did you note between lesson one and two in the following areas?
The teacher’s attitude to the
students:
Lesson 1: No
interested what so ever in the class, Rude.
Lesson 2: fluent
lesson, good interaction with students, good attitude.
The students’ attitude
towards the teacher:
Lesson 1: not sure
what the teacher was saying.
Lesson 2: fluent
lesson with a clear purpose made the students more receptive to the material.
More effort from the students.
Student participation:
Lesson 1: participation
was not encouraged at all by the teacher. When the students talk they are
guessing more than participating.
Lesson 2: the teacher
attitude and the clear purpose of the lesson gave the student enough confidence
to participate.
The teacher’s voice (clarity,
complexity, speed etc):
Lesson 1: the teacher
attitude showed no interest in teaching the class. The lesson was very complex
and the teacher language and expression did not make it nay simpler.
Lesson 2: Good pace,
good tone, clear purpose, very fluent. Lots of clarity and good attitude by the
teacher.
The teacher’s instructions
and explanations:
Lesson 1: the teacher’s
attitude showed no interest in teaching the class. No expressions or body
language. The student didn’t appear to understand what he was explaining.
Lesson 2: good fluent
lesson with a clear purpose, good simple explanations by the teacher have the
students involved.
Monitoring of the students:
Lesson 1: not the
proper attitude for teaching a class by the teacher. No body language, eye
contact, didn’t speak to the class, didn’t engage the students.
Lesson 2: The teacher
had the student always focused on him and the lesson. Calls them by their
names, good positive attitude.
Engage stage:
Lesson 1: not engaging
at all, the teacher is only repeating things the students do not understand at
all.
Lesson 2: students are
engaged and encouraged to participate.
Study stage:
Lesson 1: the lesson
had no clear purpose and was going nowhere so the student didn’t have a clear
idea on how to participate the teacher also wasn’t engaging and didn’t help at
all.
Lesson 2: teacher
attitude generated enough confidence for the students to participate.
Activate stage:
Lesson 1: the teacher
didn’t give the students confidence to make them participate. The lesson was
cut short.
Lesson 2: good
material, engaging attitude by the teacher gave the students the confidence to
answer question properly.
Task 4 – How would you
change/adapt lesson two to make it more effective still?
More focus on pronunciation correction. Less material to
cover, if there is to much material the classes purpose won’t be so clear.
Task 5 – What level do you
think the students are? Was the language
point appropriate for this level?
On lesson one the students appeared the students don appear
to be in the correct levels, the teacher doesn’t give you clear picture about
the level of the students..
On lesson two the students appeared to be
beginner-intermediate, they use basic lessons and material but understand what
the teacher is saying.
